Yesterday I was watching the Wizard of Oz cartoon with my baby boy Vinnie.
There’s a scene at the end of the movie where Dorothy finds out that the all-powerful wizard is just a lil man hiding behind a curtain pulling levers.
Some personal trainers market their business this way.
Instead of hiding behind a curtain though… they hide behind bland corporate ‘me too’ style marketing pretending to be the big corporation that they’re not.
Too afraid to put themselves out there, to expose themselves to criticism and be vunerable to the haters who are just gonna hate no matter what you do.
The truth is; people want to do business with people they know, like and trust… so let your prospects and clients get to know you.
And, if people don’t like you… screw em – they’re never gonna buy from you anyways.
Have the courage to show your personality when communicating your message, whether it’s email, Facebook or Podcasting… just treat it like you’re having a beer with a mate in the pub.
Try too hard to impress and you’ll come across as corporate and boring.
Better to motivate and inspire than to impress… that’s what me finks anyways.
Personality driven marketing is the one advantage you have over the big corporate gyms and 24-hour chains, those businesses have no personality… no soul… and no connection with their members.
Be something, do something and have the courage to be the face of your fitness business and brand.
Till next time!
