On the way to work this morning I was listening to a very funny Podcast from stand up comedian Dante Nero.
In his podcast he had a list of ‘rules’ for men to get their balls back, if you get time check him out.
Anyways… I thought I’d swipe his idea and have a list of rules or ‘principles’ for PT Supremacy.
So, welcome to PT Supremacy Rules
Rule #1: Get leverage
Proper leverage will make you more $$ whilst working less hours. The goal is to work harder… not smarter!
Most 1-1 trainers income will cap out when they can’t physically train any more clients, the smart personal trainers use leverage.
Here are the 4 best ways to get leverage in your fitness business…
- Leverage other people’s time. Get good at sales and marketing and hire trainers to train your clients for you.
- Leverage software. Create a training program once, package it up and sell it online over and over and over again.
- Leverage your clients time. Train small groups or boot camps and you’ll earn a lot more $$ per hour.
- Leverage other peoples products/services. Have a backend and sell supplements, equipment, clothing and anything else to help your clients get results.
Rule #2: The Worst Number In Business is One
Anyone who’s been following me for a while will know I’m a massive Dan Kennedy fanboy, this tip is something I’ve picked up from his writings.
Whatever you do in business, never rely on one point of failure.
If you employ one trainer… it’s only a matter of time till they get sick, go on holidays or leave. Instead of hiring one fulltime trainer, better to hire two part time trainers and have cover if needed.
If you rely one media for your marketing, it’s only a matter of time till the rules change. Remember when Facebook pages first came out?
People were making a killing with their pages, then Facebook changed the rules and people literally got wiped out over night.
Have at least 5 media channels feeding leads into your business. If one slows down, you can simply focus more of your time on the remaining 4.
Have multiple streams of income, if you rely one service or product and you face a slowdown – you’re screwed. Offer a minimum of 4 services/products, that way if one slows down – just invest more time on the remaining 3.
The 4 streams of income that have worked best for me over the years are;
Boot camp/group training, online training, 1-1 personal training (hiring other trainers) and weight loss challenges.
Have a look at your business and ask yourself if there are any ‘one point of failures’. If so, what can you do to make your business more stable?
